About Kiosks

The Benefits of using kiosks

  • Ideal for cutting queues in coffee shops or fast food outlets. Some customers walk away if they see a queue at the counter
  • Can be configured to upsell products with automatic prompts for side orders etc. The kiosk shows all possibilities, by illustrating every product available
  • Research shows that on average customers using self service kiosks will spend 15% more when ordering at a kiosk, rather than the counter
  • Customers usually take more time ordering (kiosks aren’t impatient) when there isn’t a server or other customers waiting for them to make their choice
  • Orders are sent directly through to the preparation area/kitchen. This reduces the average wait time for orders to be fulfilled.
  • If there is a mistake, it is the customers fault for not reviewing the sale. Kiosk orders prevent orders from being misheard by the server.
  • The customer can enter their order personalised to their requirements. A summary of what they have ordered will be shown before they confirm. At this point they can add/edit/delete items if necessary
  • Allergen information can easily be viewed by the customer, which serving staff often forget. This reduces the chance of a mistake being made and ensures the outlet is legally covered should a mistake arise
  • The large screen can be used to display promotions and offers when the unit is idle, exactly as a digital menu board does, with rolling promotions
  • Payments must be completed before the order is processed to protect from false orders and to ensure payment, resulting in better security at point of sale
  • Because the order is prepaid there are no cards or cash in the hands of the server. This eliminates ‘sweet hearting’ by staff
  • Kiosks minimise the number of staff needed, they do not take breaks, get grumpy or call in sick!
  • Kiosks free up staff making them available to undertake other duties
  • Kiosks offer upselling and cross selling opportunities – with pictures of meals, increasing average customer spend, and consequently increasing profit
  • Kiosks allow customers to purchase products that they were possibly previously not aware were available, again increasing profit
  • Kiosks encourage ‘grab and go’ by offering a quicker checkout service
  • Many customers have realised through usage, that they prefer kiosk ordering rather than ordering at the counter
  • Kiosks allow customers to be served faster and therefore the business can process more orders
  • Kiosks encourage people to spend more since the most popular and high margin items are what is initially seen on the screen
  • Kiosks can be used as a supplementary server when the serving counter is busy, it is often at this juncture when customers begin to prefer kiosks when placing orders
